SHELL VENEERS - SHEETS

SHELL VENEER SHEETS (5 ½" X 9 ½")

Sold individually. Listed thicknesses are nominal, but even, as some types of shell can be worked thinner than others without breaking apart during manufacture. For the same reason, not all sheets are available in both thin and thick sizes. Colors are well matched, edges are trimmed, some sheets may have slight corner chipping or contain areas of slight "worminess"; there will be color variations between sheets or batches.

SPARKLE M.O.P. (VS-TK-SPKMOP): White to very pale yellow flakes of glittery M.O.P. in epoxy matrix.

WHITE M.O.P. (VS-TN/TK-MOP): Stiffer than abalone, made from huge (3" -3 ½" long) pieces, in 5 or 6 vertical rows.

WHITE MOSIAC M.O.P. (VS-TN-MOMOP): Mainly for architectural uses, made from 11 vertical rows of ½" wide x ½"-1" long pieces.

GOLD M.O.P. (VS-TN/TK-GOLD): Rich, buttery yellow with very little white showing, from largest possible pieces.

GOLD MOSIAC M.O.P. (VS-TN-MOGO): 11 vertical rows of ½" wide x ½"-1" long pieces of gold M.O.P.; architectural uses.

BROWN M.O.P. (VS-TN/TK-BROWN): Made from choice Wing shell, with iridescent, rich leathery to pinkish-brown tones.

BLACK M.O.P. (VS-TN/TK BLACK): Select pieces of Tahitian black M.O.P. with lots of red and green iridescence.

CAPIZ (VS-TN-CAPIZ) White but transparent, softly pearlescent, with a finely wrinkled figure, made from overlapped 2" discs of whole shell. Fragile; used architecturally.

CAPIZ MOSIAC (VS-TN-MOCAP): As for Capiz above, but made with 1"- 2 1/2" long pieces in 10 or 11 vertical rows.

PEN SHELL, LIGHT (VS-TN-PENLT): Not pearly, but has slightly silky chatoyance; pale yellowish-tan to buff color, with scattered slightly darker areas. Architectural uses.

PEN SHELL, DARK (VS-TN-PENDK): Not pearly, but with slightly silky chatoyance; mottled purplish-brown, suggestive of tortoise shell. Architectural uses; guitar pickguards?

AGOYA (VS-TN-AGOYA): Similar to pale gold M.O.P., mottled to whitish, irregular patchwork texture, iridescent.

DONKEY EAR ABALONE (VS-TN-DONK): Composed of small fan-shape pieces of whole shell, very uniform (almost like spun metal); lots of movement in the light, and overall pinkish hue with much iridescent flash.

GREEN SEA SNAIL (VS-TN/TK-SNAIL); Pale and creamy (similar in color to Green ab. Rippled), no black lines; strong green/pink/violet iridescence. Made from large curved bands forming lengthwise "S" pattern on the sheet.

TURBO, SINGLE ARC (VS-TN-TURX1); "Pale" with no black lines but incredible deep pink/green/yellow/blue iridescence. Pieces are arranged lengthwise in concentric arcs across the entire sheet (like half a "bull's-eye" target).

TURBO, TRIPLE ARC (VS-TN-TURX3): As above, but pieces are arranged to form three columns of nested arcs across the width of the sheet.

KOREAN AWABI RIM (VS-TN-AWRIM): Same fantastic colors as our Turbo, but less than 1/2 the cost! Pieces used from this abalone shell's curved "rim" create a quilted/diamond pattern with no straight-line joints. Limited availability.

KOREAN AWABI RIBBON (VS-TN-AWRIB): Colors as above, but made from vertical rows of finely rippled/bumpy-looking shell which mostly obscures the straight-line joints.

JAPANESE AWABI ABALONE (VS-TN-AWABI): Similar to Green ab. rippled but with larger ripples, free of dark spots or lines, has more colorful iridescent flash.

RED ABALONE (VS-TN/TK-RED): Pale to pastel colors, mostly in reds and pinks with some greenish highlights; some black lines and deeper patches of color; limited availability.

RED ABALONE HEART (VS-TN/TK-REDHRT): Intensely reddish with lots of greens, figured like very fine "bird's-eye" or "burl"; joints invisible. Limited availability.

PINK ABALONE (VS-TN/TK-PINK): Pale, similar to Green ab. But often has more color flash; some sheets darker/lighter.

PINK ABALONE HEART (VS-TN/TK-PNKHRT): From the center of the shell, figure much like Green ab. heart but more crinkled, dark pinks/violets with touches of turquoise.

GREEN ABALONE (VS-TN/TK-GREEN): Pale colors to darker green or reddish, with many pale rippled-figure areas.

GREEN ABALONE RIPPLED (VS-TN/TK-GRIPP): Totally pale, no black lines or dark spots, very select and intense curly "fiddle-back" figuration.

GREEN ABALONE HEART (VS-TN/TK-GRHRT): Mostly darker greens, some reds and blues, dense and burly figure from central muscle-scar area of the shell. Limited availability.

PAUA ABALONE (VS-TN/TK-PAUA): The world's most colorful pearly shell, much darker than Green ab., some sheets have intense pinks, others deep greens and blues.

PAUA ABALONE RIM, LIGHT (VS-TN/TK-PRIMLT): Pink colors with some black lines. Made from nested rows of long curved "rim" pieces, so does not have any straight-line joints which can show. Displays a very nice rolling-light effect if shapes or strips are cut going across rows.

PAUA ABALONE RIM, DARK (VS-TN/TK-PRIMDK): Darker colors of red, green, and some blues, but generally not as bluish as regular Paua ab., otherwise as described above.

PAUA ABALONE HEART (VS-TN/TK-PAUHRT): From center of shell, unique figure similar to some white opals, velvety and fine-grained with violet to bluish colors.

SPARKLE ABALONE (VS-TK-SPKAB): Glittery abalone flakes of mostly Paua and some Green ab., densely-packed in epoxy.
